THANK YOU

Two words that are very important and not said near enough.  We are very fortunate to have    many people who support us and it is only with their generosity and assistance that we exist.    While the difference they have made in the lives of our gliders can't be summed up in a few    words, we do want them to know how much their thoughts and actions are appreciated.
SouthEast Sugar Gliders Rescue and Sanctuary couldn't do what it does without the support of a fabulous veterinarian.

Dr. Melissa Mueller of Planet Pet Animal Hospital cares for all our residents with professionalism and compassion.  Since sugar gliders are nocturnal, most problems will be found at night.  Many times, I have made an early morning phone call to Planet Pet asking to drop a glider off for evaluation and treatment, and been told "come on over".

Erin, Kara and Misty work alongside Dr. Mueller in caring for our animals and I am so very grateful for all they do.  Their concern doesn't end when I walk out the door.  Whether we were in for surgery and treatment or just a simple well visit, I get a follow up phone call the next day to check on us.  That may seem like a small detail, but it is one that reminds me they care.

Planet Pet is our home away from home, and I'm so glad they're there.
An angel entered our lives one August day.  Her name is Whitney Rahfeldt.  She said "anything I can do to help, just call."  Two days later, I did.  That marked the first of many trips Whitney made to pick up gliders in need.  So many times, she has changed plans with little notice in order to help a glider.  Her wisdom, energy and kind spirit have been a blessing to our sanctuary.
I am the first to admit a lack of
creativity and design skills.  My comfort
zone is in the day to day care of animals.  I've been searching for a company to design logos for our sanctuary and non-profit organizations.  Unfortunately, those services cost money and any rescue organization knows that's in short supply.  The logo situation did not look promising.  Then came Davie Newman.  She is a creative visionary who spends countless hours bringing those visions to reality.  It's very difficult for me to verbalize what I like for designs, but Davie was able to take my words and make sense of them.  I cannot begin to express my appreciation for her input, generosity and infectious enthusiasm.  Her friendship and support are more than I could have asked for and more than I'm sure I deserve.

There is a wonderful organization called The SUGAR Group which continues to earn our thanks.  This group of dedicated individuals pursues knowledge so as to improve the lives of our gliders.  Through data collection surveys, necropsy reports, culture results and examination findings, they are guiding us to improve our abililties to provide care.  Sugar gliders are an exotic pet and there is so much unknown in regards to husbandry.  This group is actively working on increasing that knowledge.  As a rescue and sanctuary manager, I am always seeking ways to offer better care to my residents. and the hard work of The SUGAR Group helps me to do so.

I ask that every sugar glider owner, rescuer and breeder visit The SUGAR Group's website and complete as many surveys as possible.  Send in your vet reports and have necropsies performed on any glider you lose.  This information helps us all.
Appreciation
Words can never tell you how much you mean to us
We get many calls from owners with questions and problems.  Some are looking for advice, some for suggestions and some just want reassurance.  No matter the reason, we try our best to offer guidance.  Many of these owners thank us and tell us that we've helped them so much.  What they don't realize is that they've helped us, too.  Animal rescuers don't get called into situations where everyone is happy and healthy.  We get calls when things have gone wrong.  Illness, injury and death are things we see too much of.  Sometimes, the problem was unavoidable, but more often it stemmed from improper care or neglect.  Those situations are the ones that hurt us the most.  We know we can help the animal, but the owner won't allow it.  That frustration can cause even the most dedicated rescuer to doubt that they're making a difference.  It is the phone calls from concerned owners that keep us going.  When we hear the relief in an owner's voice or get an update that the glider is doing well...we share in that joy.  It reaffirms our commitment and reminds us that there truly are wonderful and caring owners who want the best for their animals.  Those owners keep us going.  We want to thank every owner who is ensuring that their pet's needs are met...who is treating them like the precious creatures they are.  You are helping us more than you know.  Keep up the great work.
